Me and my child had a regular 6 month cleaning scheduled for Wednesday. I was called 5min before my appointment time to reschedule or see the dentist that was there. I chose to reschedule. I arrive with my son for my rescheduled appointment on Friday(yesterday). I was taken back first and my son was told to wait in the seat behind where I was being seen by the dental assistant. Another person came towards the exam room and exchanged words with my assistant (in Spanish). After a few minutes, I’m taken to the back to take more x-rays. My son is not sitting where he originally was and that’s the first problem. Inform the parent if you’re taking their child somewhere else. Period. He was taken to a complete opposite side of the clinic when I was under the assumption we were being seen in the same room like last time.I wait for nearly 40min for the dentist to do his 5min exam. Then, I’m met with my “treatment plan” which gives a break down of the work that I went over with the doctor about from my previous appointment. I’ve held my health insurance license in 7 different states, I definitely understand how insurance works. I’ve also had dental insurance practically my whole life and I’ve never paid anything for a routine exam and cleaning. That is preventative maintenance and it’s covered at 100%! Not to mention my son had the same exact exam and I paid nothing. So why is my cleaning $45 out pocket? Preventative care is covered at 100% whether it’s pediatric or adult. The prices for this particular dentist are EXTREMELY inflated to the point where I asked the assistant are they out of network. I told her that I will not be using them for the other work that’s needed because the price is too much out of pocket, in addition to using my insurance coverage and I have great dental insurance. Then, I inform her I only want the cleaning even though there shouldn’t be an out of pocket expense at all.She proceeds to tell me that someone will come back and collect my payment or I can go to the front and do it. Why on earth, in your right mind would you think that I’m about to pay you BEFORE you’ve rendered any services on me??? I’ve never felt so insulted in my life!!! After waiting for over an hour for a RESCHEDULED appointment. The audacity is beyond me. This is my second time here and I never paid anything BEFORE the dentist did THEIR JOB. These are horrible business practices. I’ll go all the way back to my old dentist in Berwyn before I pay you anything BEFORE you’ve done the work.If you’re scared someone is going to run off on a $45 bill, you’re practicing in the wrong area. If you refuse to service patients because of their inability to pay their out of pocket portion, that’s actually illegal. You’re trying to run a medical facility like a damn nail salon and it’s very IGNORANT. It’s not about the money, it’s definitely about the PRINCIPLE. They don’t teach these laws or business ethics in dental school? As a former medical professional, it’s really sad when you realize some people really only go into the field for the money.He also said that my son needs two fillings and I asked the front desk for the breakdown of the subsequent work that is needed and found during the exam my insurance paid for….since it won’t be done there. They said I would receive an email no later than 1pm today, haven’t received anything. Office is closed. Not surprised.
